Two Poems from our Dark Poems, Depressing Poems, Death Poetry Collection

SLEEPY SMOKE

Author: Ann Ward

Poem:
SLEEPY SMOKE

  sleepy smoke rises

all that’s left of passionate fires
mouths sucking on what’s left to breathe

alarming
ragged
breaths

but comfort in air so dense
it folds around me
like two strong arms
and places a blanket over me
so hard to breathe
so easy to sleep

NOW I KNOW

Author: Ashley Miller

Poem: NOW I KNOW

I never knew friends were privileges
until I was left alone.
I never knew laughter was a dagger
until I felt tears bleeding.
I never knew love was painful
until I felt my heart torn out of me.
I never knew the mind was powerful
until I lost control of it.
I never knew quiet could be deafening
until it screamed in my ears.
I never knew death could kill
until i saw drops of red on my wrists.
