Two Poems from our Nature Poetry Collection

Cliff Edge

Author: John O Connor

Poem:
Cliff Edge

On the cliff edge I stood

And felt understood

Rocks, sea and setting sun before me

I adore thee

Earth, Wind, Water and Fire

My soul you inspire

I require nothing more

Or nothing less

Than your earthly caress

Your life giving elements abound around me

Simply astound me

In Our Backyard

Author: Meriki Fraser \ parkinson

Poem: In Our Backyard

Fleas get in your pants, ants are in the sugar.
Flies get in your can, spiders in the shower.

Mossies snack on ankles, sand flies love the thighs.
Bull-ants cause debarkle, honey bees give hives.

Red-backs squat in tonka trucks, snail feast, beer, snow peas.
Blue tongue under step out front, black snake, grassy sneak.

Blue-bottle on sandy beach, shark! No, dolphin surfing.
Crocodile with huge teeth, believe me I'm just skirting!

Surrounded by these creatures, and yet I'm not scared.
Cause little Rainer tells me, in our backyard we have BEARS!
