Two Poems from our Nature Poetry Collection

GUNNS & ROSES

Author: Leon Trotter

Poem:
GUNNS & ROSES

  Gunns and roses they
don't realy mix.
As the chainsaws fire up
leaving nothing but sticks.

Where the forest of the
Tamar valley used to stand.
Soon there will be nothing but
sticks and stumps on that land.

Tearing down the forest
leaving the valley scared.
Is Gunns pulp mill ripping
the guts out of our back yard.
Who cares about what they do?
Its about time we spoke up me and you.

Gunns and roses they don't realy match.
As they rip up our forest
where those little birds hatch.
This is a valley that is wild and free.
This is a valley that belongs to you and me.

We all know not so many years ago.
When someone tried to dam the
Franklin River and stem its flow.
Who will think of the wildlife
when they don't have a home?
When they are standing out amongst
the sticks and the stumps all alone.

This is our land,
our patch of earth.
So turn to eachother and ask?
What is this valley realy worth?

Gunns pulp mill will leave this
valley not as it was or should be.
It will be a valley of sticks and
stumps for our children to see.

Gunns Are Black And Roses Are Red.
If Gunns get their way,
then our valley will be dead.

Angells of the sea

Author: Leon Trotter

Poem: Angells of the sea

These creatures have aright to live
they have a right to be free.
These creatures have a right to swim
for they are Angels of the sea.
These creatures are graceful
to our eyes they do please.
To watch them twist and turn
set our hearts at ease.

To hear their beautiful songs
and their sorrowful cries.
Governments of the world turn
their backs and shut their eyes.
They have a right to live
they have a right to be free.
For they are Angels
angells of the sea.

The Japanese hunt them
time and again.
And shut off their hearts
to their pain.
Research is what they tell us
thats what they need to do.
As they cruise the oceans
the oceans blue.

Cruising the oceans in their big ships.
Are the japanese with their
harpoons,ready at their fingertips.
Look over their one is breaking the
surface,so lets take aim.
As their harpoon strikes that
mighty whale without any shame.

Humpbacks and minky's to the
Japanese they are all the same.
To them the slaughter is
nothing more than a game.
If the Governments sit back and
do nothing, then it will be to late.
Because the Japanese like to sit at
home,to eat whale from their plate.

What harm have these Angels
of the sea ever done to you or me?
As they cruise the oceans of,
the oceans of the deep blue sea.

Slaughtering these whales
should be their demise.
But the governments of the world
turn their backs and shut their eyes.

Who will speak up for thes
whales if not you and me???
To leave these Angels of the oceans
alone,these Angels of the sea????
