WEEROONA LAKE PROMENADE

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem:
WEEROONA LAKE PROMENADE

in pink cardigan and grey shorts
girl keeps boxer dog on lead
wood-ducks waddle past
top-knots peck grass seed

young lad on scooter
helmet tied below chin
young lovers sprawl on rug
don’t even notice him

lone women power-walks
carries water bottle
wears sunglasses after sunset
strides out under wattle

i-pod in ears
doesn’t hear a thing
boy falls off scooter
frightens ducks with bell-ring

sun-glow through swaying gums
sets past pagoda restaurant
lovers feast on take-away
gourmet or gourmand?

he is very thin,
she’s the other way
not that it’s important
Jack Spratt lives today

outdoor umbrellas
same shape as roof
cream gazebo similar
Chinese influence both

pink cotton-wool clouds
drift above in tiers
hear baby galahs
motorized bike appears

musgovy on other side
of Lake Weerona green
pert couple with pusher
red-hair, skin-tight jeans

little baby girl
red-teat water-bottle
King Charles spaniel
tight collar will throttle

bald bloke with beer-gut
lugs frame, shoulders heave
during evening constitutional
struggling to breathe

DADDY LONG LEGS

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem: DADDY LONG LEGS

yesterday heard
desperate buzz
fly trapped
in fine web fuzz

daddy long legs
runs full strength
spins new threads
of varying lengths

in corner of room
three other spiders
make moves towards
prisoner there

each time repelled
by proprietor
most reluctant
prey to share

today notice
nothing remains
victor sated waits
for new victim again
