Two Poems from our Nature Poetry Collection

JOY AND LAUGHTER

Author: Lee Emmett

Poem:
JOY AND LAUGHTER

  hear crowd of kookaburras
outside back balcony
laughing hearts of happiness
bring joy to all they see

should take a hint from nature
especially these creatures
pleasure give to others
always gift best features

Lesser Things

Author: GEMMA WILLIAMS

Poem: Lesser Things

The silver gold studded with gems
The humble drone of the honey bee
This tranquillity soon must end
The future depends on you and me

I hear a gun shot, and another
The animals, now all scatter
No care is given for Mother Nature
For that isn’t what matters

The body of the trees, now is empty
All the animals are dead
Scattered corpses a many
With pound signs dancing in his head

If this carries on much longer
Our children will never know or see
The foxes in the field
Or the birdsong from the trees

Animals were here before us
And hopefully will be when we die
Can you just sit there and watch the news
About extinction and not want to cry

Think how hard it will be
In the future to explain to kids
How the reason there are no zoos
Is ‘cause we were all idiots

So think before you change the channel
Or throw the paper away
Think how true my sentiment is
It’s not unreachable, that day

Until no more the dew glistens
No more sweet song the birds sing
To the trees whisper you must listen
To hear the reason….we are lesser things
